The Doctor Mike King Trust

Year 12 Poster Competition

Present your EPQ or extended project as a poster, judged by local doctors.

What it is

At the end of Year 12, many students have spent months on an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) or another research project. This competition asks you to show what you found on a single poster, the way doctors and scientists share their work at conferences.

Who can enter

Year 12 students at any school or college in and around Portsmouth. Your project does not have to be about medicine, but it helps if you can say why it matters to health or to people.

You need permission to publish your work (and, if you are under 18, your parent or carer’s). You give it once, when you join. Posters show your first initial and surname, never your school.

What to send

  • Your poster as a PDF, or a JPG or PNG image, up to 15 MB. A single page, A1 or A0 size, portrait or landscape.
  • A short summary of up to 150 words: your question, what you did, what you found.

How posters are judged

A panel of local doctors looks at:

  • The question: is it clear and worth asking?
  • The method and evidence: are the sources good, and are the limits recognised?
  • Clarity: can someone understand it in two minutes?
  • Reflection: what would you do differently, and what did you learn?

Prizes: prizes for the best posters, chosen by our panel of doctors. There is also a People’s Choice: the published poster with the most likes from logged-in members.
